Uttarakhand has achieved a remarkable milestone in its tourism sector’s growth by welcoming over 6.03 crore visitors in 2025 — the highest since its formation in 2000. The record-breaking influx was driven by strong pilgrim traffic, adventure tourism demand, and targeted government campaigns aimed at year-round tourism diversification.
According to official tourism statistics, Haridwar emerged as the leading destination, accounting for approximately 3.42 crore visitors, including international tourists arriving for spiritual and cultural travel. Dehradun and Tehri also recorded significant footfalls, with Tehri gaining praise for its expanding water sports and adventure offerings.
State authorities credit improved infrastructure, enhanced safety protocols, and marketing initiatives such as the “Visit Uttarakhand Year-Round” campaign for attracting a broad spectrum of visitors. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami emphasized that this growth not only boosts the local economy but also generates employment across hospitality, transport, and allied sectors.
While stakeholders celebrate the achievement, environmental advocates call for sustainable tourism planning, especially to protect fragile Himalayan ecosystems. Plans for balanced development and conservation are reportedly in discussion with experts.
